Field test of the Gallus Labelmaster at All4Labels Switzerland AG completed with flying colors

01.05.2018

All4Labels Schweiz AG in St. Gallen (formerly Omnipack AG) was one of the first Gallus customers to install the Gallus Labelmaster label printing press, now successfully established on the market, as a field test machine. This process has now been officially completed, although the machine has been in regular production since the start of the test.

In October 2016, immediately after the Gallus Innovation Days, Gallus management was able to persuade the St. Gallen-based label printer All4Labels Schweiz AG, then still operating under the name Omni-pack AG, to opt for one of the first Gallus Labelmasters available and to put this machine through a field test under production conditions. With the support of Gallus technicians, this Gallus Labelmaster, equipped with nine flexographic printing units, was installed and commissioned in no time at all in the print shop just a stone's throw away.

Within a year, this machine was subjected to the demanding requirements of everyday printing with series production of commodity labels and films. Right from the start, the printers at All4Labels were impressed by the machine's intuitive operation, fast job changes, and high final speed. "It's just fantastic," says Patrik Fehr, Operations Manager at All4Labels. "No matter what speed the machine is running at, the print image is always in register. The engineers at Gallus have done a great job. We are also extremely efficient and economical with this machine. Thanks to the short web travel from printing unit to printing unit and the fast job changes, we produce less waste and are ready to print faster," Patrik Fehr continues.

The new Gallus Labelmaster machine platform offers a whole range of product highlights, such as a high top speed of 200 meters per minute, making the Gallus Labelmaster the fastest label printing press ever built by Gallus. The machine can be controlled centrally via an HMI touch panel, yet manual interventions are extremely easy and, above all, quick, enabling extremely short makeready times. The lightweight aluminum printing cylinders, specially developed for this machine type, can be changed quickly in just a few simple steps, enabling the printer to change jobs with unparalleled speed.

An optimized ink fountain for the chamber doctor blade requires only 250 g of ink, thus keeping these costs low; in addition, the ink fountain has been optimized in terms of spray behavior and foam formation. The newly designed flexographic printing unit—which benefits from the experience gained in sheetfed offset printing by the parent company Heidelberg—is directly driven by two servo motors and offers Gallus premium quality right from the start. In addition to flexographic printing units, a newly developed screen printing unit is also available, offering the option of high-end finishing.

The Gallus Labelmaster is characterized by its special platform design and can be configured by the customer according to their individual requirements. With open interfaces, this machine series offers its users a high level of investment security and the ability to respond flexibly to future market changes.

In line with this new platform design, the Gallus Labelmaster is constructed in modules, each containing two printing units. These modules are available in three different versions. The basic version already covers all the necessary standards for label printing. The Plus version offers significantly greater flexibility to cover many applications in the label industry, and the Advanced line leaves virtually nothing to be desired and can be configured to almost any degree of automation to meet all requirements.
