St. Gallen, August 8, 2023 – Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG (HEIDELBERG) and its subsidiary Gallus are presenting an innovative range of digital solutions at Labelexpo Europe 2023 (booth 11C30). The systems support greater automation of the entire ecosystem with the aim of enabling "intelligent, connected printing" to counteract the shortage of skilled workers, increase productivity, and reduce waste. With an annual growth rate of around six percent, digital label printing is an attractive growth market for HEIDELBERG, which is therefore increasingly turning to digital solutions.

The latest innovations from HEIDELBERG and Gallus underscore their commitment to driving this digital transformation forward together. "The new solutions developed jointly by HEIDELBERG and Gallus address the most important challenges facing market players on a daily basis, such as the shortage of skilled workers and the demand for greater productivity," comments Dr. Ludwin Monz, CEO of HEIDELBERG.

Gallus One digital printing press removes TCO barrier in digital label printing

Labelexpo marks the European trade fair debut of the new Gallus One digital label printing press. Unveiled in August 2022, the press has been specifically designed to reduce the total cost of ownership (TCO) for roll-to-roll digital label production with maximum automation and cloud-based technologies, thereby bringing digital label printing to a wider audience. The Gallus One thus gives brand owners access to cost-effective, sustainable, and high-quality digital labels for the first time. To further optimize the TCO benefits, Gallus recently introduced the new Gallus One with inline converting. This new solution combines all key functions inline: a digital printer with an inline flexo station, a semi-rotary die cutter that can change jobs within a minute and process up to 70 m per minute, and inspection systems to ensure top quality and minimize waste.

Groundbreaking introduction: conversion option for the Gallus ECS 340 to a hybrid system

Gallus will also be presenting the new digital printing unit (DPU) for the Gallus ECS 340 flexographic printing press at the trade fair. As unveiled for the first time in June at the Gallus Experience Days in St. Gallen, the DPU transforms a conventional Gallus ECS 340 into a Gallus Labelfire 340 hybrid printing press – without any additional investment in the platform. This means that customers can now enjoy all the flexibility and versatility of digital printing, but with the reliability and precision of conventional printing and finishing technology.

HEIDELBERG Customer portal automates contact functions

The trade show also provides a platform for presenting the new HEIDELBERG Customer Portal (HCP), which was also unveiled at the opening of the new Gallus Experience Center and automates virtually every customer contact. As a true industry innovation, future versions of the solution will also offer predictive capabilities based on artificial intelligence (AI) and provide recommendations for increasing productivity, reducing maintenance costs, and boosting profitability. The new platform is expected to save customers up to 35 percent in time and money on average.

Complete production workflow for in-mold labels

For high-volume applications, HEIDELBERG experts will also demonstrate a complete production workflow for in-mold label production that offers the highest performance on the market in terms of quality, productivity, and net output.

"Labelexpo is always a positive and inspiring event, and we take the opportunity not only to showcase our latest products at the show, but also to connect with stakeholders across the market and share our vision for the future of the industry," summarizes Dario Urbinati, CEO of the Gallus Group.
