Libako Packaging, an Indian printing and packaging specialist, is increasing its production capacity with the installation of a Gallus ECS 340, a flexographic printing press with UV drying, inline foiling, lamination, and die cutting.
Balai Adhikary, CEO at Libako Packaging, comments: “We prefer to invest in proven technology combined with innovation, brand value, and versatility. We compared all printing presses and their configurations, and this Gallus flexographic printing press ultimately came out on top for our needs. We are impressed by the print quality, but also by the register control with reduced waste and the support provided by the Heidelberg India service team. Process flexibility and user-friendliness are further highlights of the Gallus ECS 340 that were decisive factors in our decision.”
Libako Packaging has recognized the potential of flexographic printing in label production for several years. During the 2020 pandemic, the company decided to invest in a Gallus ECS 340.
“We are very satisfied with the entire sales and installation process, and we would like to extend our special thanks to the service team at Heidelberg India, who helped us get this Gallus ECS 340 up and running so quickly. In the midst of the pandemic and lockdown, they completed the installation of the new printing press in a record time of just six days after the machine arrived at our site. The entire Gallus and Heidelberg team was extremely cooperative and supportive. We are impressed by the outstanding print quality, which meets our expectations and has set new standards in the ongoing print trials," confirms Adhikary.

The overall equipment efficiency (OEE) of the printing press is defined by numerous factors such as available time, quality, and production speed of the machine, as this is the mantra for the success of the label printer. "The machine automation of the Gallus ECS 340 ensures maximum OEE, and the dedicated service and application engineering support provided by the Heidelberg/Gallus team have helped us reduce material waste and time lost during production and job changes, resulting in high productivity. These are some of the most important factors in favor of Heidelberg and the Gallus family," explains Adhikary.

Narendra Kulkarni, Regional Product Manager, Asia at Gallus and Sales Manager for India, adds: “We are delighted to be able to contribute to Libako’s success story with the Gallus ECS 340 and welcome the entire Libako team to the Heidelberg and Gallus family.” The Gallus ECS 340 is a web label printing press with a granite core that eliminates vibrations during printing. Its modular design ensures minimal space requirements and the very short web path reduces waste.
Libako Packaging
The company operates a 45,000 m² factory for offset, digital, and large-format printing, prepress, and finishing on Matheswartala Road in Kolkata, India. The second, newly built, 9,000 m² eco-friendly production facility in Jalpath, Kolkata, is a one-stop solution provider for the production of premium quality products. Ankan Adhikary, the next-generation entrepreneur who joined his father's business, comments: "We want to diversify into a full-service packaging solutions provider with a broad range of services. We are concerned about the environment and have therefore set up our new factory in Jalpath in compliance with all environmentally friendly standards."
Libako Packaging was founded in 1981 with the vision of providing high-quality printing solutions. The company saw great opportunities in the printing and packaging industry with the production of labels for shoe and cotton clothing manufacturers in Kolkata using screen printing. Within a few years, Libako Packaging expanded its portfolio to include commercial printing, packaging, POS, wood, metal, and plastic manufacturing.
