Edition 40 / December 2014
Welcome to the 40th edition of Gallus In Touch, which we are delighted to kick off with an extremely positive report from the “Gallus Innovation Days”, a hit with label printers from all around the world. The three-day event, held in St. Gallen in September, centred on the world premiere of the new generation of digital printing presses for labels – The digital future is Gallus DCS 340 – that sets hitherto unknown label-printing standards in terms of productivity, flexibility and quality with its native resolution of 1200 dpi, print speed of 50 m/min and exceptional register accuracy. more
More than 700 visitors came from all over the world to attend “Gallus Innovation Days 2014”, which was held for the first time at the Gallus Ferd. Rüesch AG headquarters in St. Gallen, Switzerland, from 23 until 25 September. The main focus of the three-day event was the world premiere of a new generation digital printing press for labels. Other innovations in 2014 included additions to the Gallus machinery and service portfolio, the printing accessories program, and the Gallus Screeny screen printing program. more
The acquisition of Gallus by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG was completed in July. What does this mean for Gallus and its customers?
To start with, I should point out that Heidelberg owned a 30 percent stake in Gallus since 1999 and was therefore already proportionately represented on its Board of Directors, the most senior managing body of Gallus. Heidelberg invested considerable effort in this involvement from the outset, as shown by the presence of two Heidelberg Board Members on the Gallus Board of Directors throughout the entire duration. more
At “Gallus Innovation Days 2014”, the curtain fell and the prototype of the Gallus DCS 340 (DCS = Digital Converting System) was revealed for the first time to over 700 interested visitors. The configuration of the presented prototype, which is based on the well-known, popular flexo press Gallus ECS 340 web carrying platform, consisted of: more
A Gallus ECS 340 forms the new centrepiece at T/A RAKO Tamperseal (Pty) Ltd., part of the global RAKO GROUP. The eight-colour UV flexographic printing machine with cold foil unit for finishing is the first of its kind in South Africa and another competitive boost for this relatively young company. more
Northern Europe is known for its innovations and intelligent technical solutions. This is why prestigious label print shop Nordvalls also relies on Gallus Screeny Digital for the latest prepress technology in its blockmaking operations for screen printing. more
Virtually no packaging sector in the last few years has grown as strongly as plastic tubes. And, according to experts, this extremely versatile and reliable form of packaging will continue to be popular in the future. Gallus identified this trend early on and certified the third machine system for processing tube laminate – the Gallus ECS 340. While the Gallus RCS is used mainly for high-finish tubes, and the Gallus EM S is used primarily for volume orders, the Gallus ECS 340 now fills the gap in processing simpler tube laminate jobs. more
Metallic doming describes a new and unique effect in narrow-web label printing – a reflective, metallic raised structure manufactured using a relief in rotary screen printing. Metallic doming was first presented to the label industry on a Gallus RCS 330 during the “Gallus Innovation Days”. What makes metallic doming unique is the lasting metal-relief effect achieved on paper or plastic film, such as tube laminates or transparent self-adhesive material. more
As an OEM, Gallus has always been committed to delivering the highest standards in terms of quality, safety, performance, reliability, responsibility and technological advances for its Gallus Screeny Genuine screen printing plates.
This Gallus promise is also reflected in the new Gallus Screeny Advanced Line (A-Line). Due to be released on the market from beginning of 2015, it draws on the Gallus Screeny S-Line in terms of ink layer thickness and print resolution.
The flexographic printing plate can be described as the heart of flexographic printing, as it has a decisive influence on a label printer's print results and production efficiency. There are well over 40 different flexographic printing plates on the market for label printers, but all of them vary in terms of their properties, print behaviour and manufacturing process. more
After successfully completing his high school exams in Switzerland and doing a one-year internship in an advertising agency, Niklaus Amacker studied for a degree in tourism in Graubünden.
