Edition 39 / September 2014

Editorial

Dear reader/customer,

Welcome to the 39th edition of Gallus In Touch, which is entirely devoted to our upcoming Gallus Innovation Days 2014 on 23 – 25 September in St. Gallen and starts with a very important question:

Why are the Gallus Innovation Days worth a visit?

For one thing, you’ll be one of a select group to experience live the world premiere of a new digital machine generation for label printing. With a continuing increase in short-run label production and personalised, versioned labels, the market is currently seeing a steady shift towards digital print production. Come and see live how, in a joint project with Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and this company’s technology partner for inkjet printing, Fujifilm, Gallus is combining the benefits of conventional and digital label printing in a single flexible, high-quality machine system that sets new standards in terms of quality, efficient short-run production and personalisation.

Naturally, visitors can also discover new features of tried-and-tested Gallus presses. The benefits of Gallus RCS – the benchmark will be demonstrated in practice in conjunction with a QuadTech colour control system. For the first time ever, the Gallus Innovation Days will also be offering an insight into ongoing developments at Gallus. The “Look over the developers’ shoulders” part of the programme enables visitors to discover new features of the machine system with a success story dating back over ten years.

Matrix removal with a highly complex die line at maximum speeds without matrix tears will be a further highlight. The new high-performance matrix stripper on the Gallus ECS 340 – the best-selling machine system for narrow-web label printing – is a masterpiece of mechatronics by the engineers at Gallus. This innovative feature, which further boosts the productivity and cost-efficiency of the Gallus ECS 340 and will be demonstrated live at the Gallus Innovation Days, even handles complex die lines at high speeds.

The article entitled Gallus Screeny – innovative screen printing reveals that Gallus will also be using the event to showcase its new Gallus Screeny Advanced Line (A-Line), which is exceptionally robust for maximum plate re-use. In addition, visitors will be able to see the live debut of the unique metallic doming combination printing process (screen printing with metal relief effect on transparent self-adhesive materials or tube laminate) on the Gallus RCS 330. Suggestions for exciting new solutions and discussions about the current “Tempo 120” project for rotary screen printing will round off the screen printing division’s presentation perfectly.

In addition to the new service packages for customers, Gallus Customer Services will also be unveiling Polymount Twinlock – new to the Gallus portfolio. The revolutionary full-area and thus seamless self-adhesive Twinlock printing cylinder coating dispenses entirely with the need for flexographic adhesive tapes and eliminates all the associated drawbacks. We also now have three new types of doctor blade in the Gallus range of printing accessories. These precise, high-quality doctor blades ensure stable ink transfer during flexographic printing. Our team of experts at the Gallus Innovation Days will be happy to help you select the right doctor blade for your needs.

To round off this three-day event, Gallus partners will be demonstrating their latest products and services to visitors. And at the Gallus expert forum, top specialists will be revealing the latest trends and technical developments in narrow-web label printing.

We hope you enjoy reading the articles in this 39th edition of Gallus in Touch and they convince you to join us at the Gallus Innovation Days 2014.

We would be delighted to see you in St. Gallen in September.

Kind regards,

Stefan Heiniger                                                      Christof Naier
